November 17th, 2009 at 3:20 pmI have a Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista. I downloaded a MS word file which was attached to an email (no viruses, as far as I know). I then right clicked on the icon and renamed the file. A new icon with the new name appeared, and works fine to open the file. The old icon remained on the desktop and will neither open nor delete. When I try to open it it asks what program to use (even though it’s a .doc), I pick Word, then nothing happens. When I try to drag it to the recycle bin it says it’s no longer located on the desktop and I need to verify its location. It says its size is 0 bytes. Tried restarting, shutting down and booting back up, still there. What should I do? santoramaa

My sons have an HP one year old laptop running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Of course, just turned a year old two days ago and warranty is now up. There is not a lot of software on this thing. I installed ESET Nod32 and it runs well. I just scanned and there are no threats found. No popups are appearing in IE. There is no sign of a virus anywhere. There are multiple problems that I cannot figure out. When we try to shut the computer down, it gets stuck in Logging Off screen. I try Ctrl Alt Delete to bring up Task Manager but it will not appear. I get the Icon down in the lower right part of the screen, but cannot click on it to open it up. I tried to do a System Restore. I select it, but nothing happens. When I try doing it all over again, it says that it is already running, but it is not. I have tried uninstalling things they dont need but the uninstall freezes up also and when i hit cancel, it just remains cancelling without doing anything. I am usually pretty good at fixing things but this one has me stumped. If I could just do a restore, i feel like i could get it back to where it was before this started happening a couple of days ago,. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help with a problem I’m having? I’m connected to the internet and it will let me open google but if I try to open another webpage it tells me the page cannot open. I already checked the firewall and everything seems fine, i also scanned for viruses with Avira and Mallware Byte and nothing showed up. If anyone can help it’d be much appreciated thanks!

hi there. my dell inspiron 1520 (vista) must have contracted some virus and it DOES NOT boot up. at all. I scoured my room at home and school to locate the recovery disk and have found nothing. now I’ve been reading everything from “the inspiron 1520 doesn’t come with recovery disks” to “it does, and if you do not have them try this link http://support.euro.dell.com/support/top… THAT SITE’S ADVICE DOES NOT WORK because after I press F8, and enter on repair your computer, the screen goes blank and nothing happens. is there any way to fix my computer? (NOTE ASIDE FROM DIRECTING ME TO THE WEBSITE ABOVE) I don’t even care about losing files as there is nothing on my laptop I have not backed up already. my computer is still also under warranty, and I’ve heard that if it wouldn’t boot up with the recovery disk they would replace it. but again… I do not have the recovery disk. thanks for any help!

Trying to figure out what’s going on with my parents’ PC…every so often they can hear a radio broadcast from their PC speakers. Always some infomercial or asian talk show. I’ve tried going through all their running programs, removed the extension cords, disconnected the broadband but you can still hear it. This just started a few months ago. I’ve run virus scans, AdAware, HijackThis, etc. coming up with nothing every time. They haven’t moved and there are no new radio stations in the area, everything has been the same for the last 6 years up until now.

A couple of my friends have told me about limewire….but if I get it I’m not sure if I’ll get a virus on my computer. I just got my computer fixed from a virus and I REALLY don’t want another one….What should I do? Stick with Itunes, or switch to Limewire?

My Dell D820′s touchpad is not working correctly. I can move the cursor, but it won’t click on anything. There doesn’t seem to be anything preventing the buttons from moving (dirt under buttons). An external mouse works fine. Adjusted the control panel settings. Updated the drivers. Did a virus scan. Tech support came up with nothing. Any ideas?
